We know that putting history in order can be tricky. In our ‘Sketch Through Time’ workshop participants will have the chance to become anthropologists.
Discovering interesting objects from Portland Basin Museums collections, from modern day Tameside right back to the Stone Age, participants will be led through the key historical eras within Tameside. Each will also have the opportunity to touch, learn and most importantly sketch the object in their own individual sketch books. They will take away the knowledge of a contextualised history of Tameside as well as an understanding of the art of sketching.
The professional artist leading the workshop will be able to highlight how sketching has helped people throughout history understand, explore and pass on knowledge of both our natural and man-made world.
Each sketch will vary, with some being more difficult than others, as we move through time, allowing participants to add new drawing techniques to their repertoire.
During this workshop time will be spent learning new ways of drawing and drawing techniques, whilst also learning more about different object and items from within Portland Basin Museum collection.
At the museum or gallery: you can book to combine with a second workshop for a facilitated full day experience.
At school: we will send you some ideas for pre-and post- visit activities when you book this workshop. Plus, why not see if there is a Museum in a Box that links to your class topics.
This workshop is delivered at Portland Basin Museum:
