Friday 23rd - Sunday 25th September 2022 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Twinning of Mossley and Hem. 2022 is not just a Platinum Jubilee Celebration for Her Majesty, it is also a Golden Jubilee Celebration for Mossley!

Mossley twinned with the town of Hem, near Lille in France in 1972. Town Twinning was established after WWII to bring greater understanding and connection between communities in Europe and the two towns have maintained a strong connection through school, cultural, music and sports exchanges over the years.

To celebrate the 50 anniversary of the town’s relationship Mossley Town Council and the Mossley Twinning Committee began the ambitious undertaking of producing a series of creative responses and projects under the theme of twinning, alongside organising a variety of events.

The project named Jubilee Jumelage (jumelage means twinning in French) boasts projects from artists based in Mossley, collaborating with artists based in Hem.

Mossley artists involved are; Mossley Writers, GW Theatre, Born and Bred Dance TheatreReCreate Mossley, Ushiku Crisafulli, Diana TerryJudith Alsop Miles and Odyssey Studios. Their projects involve dance, music, drama, hip hop, painting, mono-printing, writing, poetry and film.

There are many ways in which you can get involved with the twinning celebration. You can take part in free arts workshops or enjoy one of the many events on offer. A full timetable of workshops and events can be found here.

During the main weekend in September we will have delegates from Hem visiting Mossley, staying with local hosts and attending events that showcase our marvellous town, so why not come out and join us!
