COUNCIL led events in Tameside will no longer go ahead during the 10 days of mourning as the world grieves the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
This includes the Stalybridge Town of Culture Gongoozler Fest, due to held this weekend (9-11 September).
All other council services will run as normal.
The following commemorations will still take place:
· 10 year memorial of PC Fiona Bone and PC Nicola Hughes
· 100 year memorial of Ashton War Memorial
Tameside Council Assistant Executive Member for Culture, Heritage and Cllr Sangita Patel said: “It is with a heavy heart that we – like most other places up and down the country -are cancelling events that we know people were looking forward to and that many people have put a lot of hard work, planning and commitment to. However, we also know the Tameside community will want to observe the national 10 days of mourning following the death of her Majesty the Queen and demonstrate their respect for a Sovereign who put duty first and always.”
“Thank you to everyone who has worked with us on planning the events and also thank you to the wider community for your support and understanding.
“It is unlikely the Gongoozler Fest will now be held this year but, over the coming weeks, we will look at alternative options.”
