After the success of the very first Fridays on the Square in Ashton, the October event is shaping up to be another culinary, craft-y and creative celebration of the Tameside town.
On October 6 in Fletcher Square, visitors to the town centre event will be entertained by live music, guaranteed to get your feet tapping. Local Manchester indie solo act Kaiden Nolan, who recently played Glastonbury as well as a sold-out gig at the Deaf Institute will be headlining and bringing his anthemic rock and funk music to the town, while Flat Cap Brass will take on some very funky covers of pop songs with their bold brass sound.
Ashton’s absolutely wonderful Phantasmagoria Magical Travel Emporium will be providing more creativity this month with a magical Bubbling Cauldron potion trail, arts and craft activities and Magical Mushroom roaming performers who will be guiding young participants as they gather mystical ingredients from around Fletcher Square. Bring your vivid imaginations and expect wondrous creativity and lots of fun!
Young guests will also get the chance to meet roaming characters Otto the Otter and Teddy the Fox, as they wheel a wooden cart through the crowd. Laden with ancient magic, props and relics from the greatest fairy tales ever to be told, the duo will be entertaining visitors with their test-your-knowledge quizzes.
From a food perspective, the local traders are out in force with a whole host of choice for visitors to feast on. From Wrapscallion Burritos, woodfired pizzas from Wilde & White, Mr Murray’s Scotch Eggs, Pad Thai from the Thai Food Van, plus tapas, churros and crepes, there will be something for everyone’s taste on site, plus drinks from The Pick Me Up Truck.
The family friendly Fridays on the Square events in Ashton-under-Lyne aim to showcase the best local food, fused with art activities, entertainment and music. Created by Tameside Council, the events aim to bring a sense of vibrancy and community back to the town centre.
Funded by the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) for Communities and Place, the four pilot events will take place on the first Friday of the month from 4pm to 8pm from September to December.
October’s Friday on the Square will take place from 4pm on 6th October in Fletcher Square, Ashton-under-Lyne. For more information, go to www.intameside.co.uk/fridaysonthesquare
