Stamford Park hosts its annual family fun day on Sunday, April 28 and brings something for everone.
With spring into its second month, it provides a great chance for people to get together and relax in the open air, and shows off the flagship Victorian Park in all its glory.
Between noon and 4pm, visitors can make the most of the fine facilities including the water feature, the boating lake, the aviary and the Highfield Pavilion café with its wide range of refreshments.
There will be lots of entertainment such as face painting, birds of prey, crafts, a climbing wall, music, stalls and walkabout acts – all against a colourful backdrop of spring flowers.
Bring your bike along for a MOT and TfGM’s Dr Bike mechanic will fix minor repairs to have your bike feeling like new.
There will be advice on bicycle buying along with information on the best local clubs, shops and events, and you can have your bike marked so it’s on BikeRegister, the national cycle database, which aims to prevent theft and reunite stolen cycles with their owners.
As parking around Stamford Park is limited, anyone travelling to the fun day by bike will be eligible for free BikeRegister membership which normally costs £12.99.
Pets don’t miss out, either. There’s a fun dog show with lots of classes including waggiest tail and best biscuit catcher. Entry is £2 per class and registration takes place from noon with the RSPCA show starting at 1pm.
As parking near Stamford Park is largely residents-only, visitors are encouraged to travel in by public transport. However, for those who do come by car, there are car pay-and-display parks off Darnton Road.
The spring family fun day is also a smoke-free event where smoking is prohibited to protect young people and children.
