2022 proved to be a spectacular year for Stalybridge as the town celebrated the accolade ofbeing the Greater Manchester Town of Culture.
If you attended the events and shared the fantastic experience and events on offer or if you missed out on some of the action, you can now take a look back on the fun and festivities and relive the memories captured in a brilliant show reelwhich highlights the best bits of the year.
The year offered a cultural feast of opportunities for residents and visitors of all agesand tastes. With everything from entertainment, dancing, craft activities andcarnival parades at the town’s monthly Street Fest event to artist led exploration walks, amazing exhibitions and the who could forget the top notch Halle Orchestra performances.
During 2022,Tameside Council gave out £12,000 in grants which helped fund the fantastic and eclectic array of community projects, which provided opportunities for all agesto get involved in anything from photography, art, dance and circus workshops toone off fun children’s activities.
Local community partners, businesses and organisations all came together to produce the Town of Culture programme - including The Bridge Cultural Consortium which took a lead role on the bid and in delivering the programme alongside the council. The show reel celebrates the partnerships and the real team effort that made the year so special.

Though the year has ended, the legacy of Stalybridge’s year as Town of Culture will live on. Not least with the Historic England funded Hi Street Fest event which will bring free, spectacular, carnival content to the town as part of a wonderful weekend of activity on the 9 September 2023 which will celebrate the highstreet, local arts and creativity.
