Preserve the past and share your ideas for the future in a new community space for the town
A new digital community space has been launched for Stalybridge - a place to preserve the past, capture the present and share your hopes and ideas for the future of your town. And, it’s really easy to get involved!
Think of The Living Room as a kind of living history of your hometown, created by you.
Perhaps you have some old photos you’d love to share or a link to some interesting local history. Or maybe you filmed something on your phone that everyone needs to see! You might want to tell us a story, well you can record it on your phone and pop it in The Living Room!
Why create The Living Room?
Claire Tymon from LOCAL, who created the concept, explains: “We wanted to create a digital place where local people can celebrate the community and tell your town’s story in your own words. Whatever your age, background or local interests, we want this space to represent everything that makes Stalybridge what it is. And to capture your experiences for future generations.
“But it’s not just about treasured memories or what life is like today. We also want The Living Room to inspire how Stalybridge evolves and changes over the years to come. We’d love people to share their hopes and ideas about what they want from Stalybridge. And for these ideas to inspire local communities, from schools and tourists, to developers and town planners.
“Our Living Rooms are a place to relax, reflect and socialise. It is the room that reflects who we are and what we love. Do you have something to share about Stalybridge? Well grab a brew and pull up a chair, because now you can in The Living Room, where all the content and stories are created by the people of Stalybridge.”
How can you contribute to The Living Room?
Claire continues: “The Living Room doesn’t exist without you, so we’d love for you to get involved. You can send us a link, share a photo or even leave a recording. If it tells the story of your town, it belongs in The Living Room.”
Just visit the website, explore the different sections and upload or email your story. Click Submit, then fill in a few details, tell the story of your contribution, and add a link or file. Take a look around and see what the people of Stalybridge have shared so far.
