Clarendon Sixth Form College have been working with Portland Basin Museum on a collaborative art project where students respond creatively to the museum’s objects and displays. The amazingly creative and varied artworks you can see displayed around the museum are a result of the project.
The students began by visiting the museum to learn about its varied collections and themes, and how its objects help to tell the social and industrial story of Tameside. They decided on a particular object or area of the museum which they would then respond to for the duration of the project. The students are in their finalyear of Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma of Art & Design.
The creative process involved researching local history and the themes explored, making direct studies and experimenting with materials and processes.
The final outcome is the result of weeks of development and refining work. It has been an exciting and rewarding experience being able towork so closely together.
