Join ‘The Rutherford Rabble’, the coolest new school of art around, for an immersive day of art based activities in Hyde town centre inspired by the paintings and techniques of one of Tameside’s most celebrated painters, Harry Rutherford.

Pick up a mini sketchbook from Hyde library and set off on a fabulous art trail adventure around Clarendon Square. Follow the map and search through the shops to discover wonderful works of art created by local primary school students inspired by original Harry Rutherford paintings. Along the way you’ll also be challenged by The Rutherford Rabble to complete a series of mini drawing activities in your sketchbook.

After you’ve finished the trail, head back to the library where there’ll be a delightful drop in craft activity taking place throughout the day. Perfect for those wishing to show off their newly acquired sketching skills!

The Rutherford Rabble will be roaming around the library and Hyde town centre, sharing techniques and tales about Harry and his career. Make sure to check out their amazing artistic abilities as they attempt Harry’s famous ‘pocket sketch’ technique, where The Rutherford Rabble artists will try to sketch you in a limited amount of time without even looking at the paper!

Perfect for those looking for something creative to do over the February half term, Hyde Art Day offers an inspirational look into the history of art in Hyde whilst aiming to inspire the next generation of young artists to paint, draw, and discover the artistic merit of their local area.
