Several local businesses and the Ashton Town Team have pulled together to put on a day of festivities in Ashton town centre - all taking place on Saturday 25th November.
The events have been organised by the Ashton Town Team, supported by Tameside Council, and fully funded from the UK Government through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund for Communities and Place for the Ashton Creative Improvement District.
Between 11am and 3pm, Fletcher Square will be turned into a very merry location indeed, with a Christmas Tree Trail and a creative crafting session, where participants can make their own Christmas cards to take away! Children can also grab an “elfie” with a Goofy Elf character and enjoy lots of festive fun.
At the same time, Ashton town centre will play host to a special event about The Black Knight - a legendary character in the town who has become a central figure that champions Ashton and celebrates its mediaeval history. The display about the Black Knight will run alongside vintage images of Ashton town centre to stir up nostalgia and take people on a historical tour of yesteryear. Plus, the Black Knight himself will be making an appearance…
The Town Team received a Creative Communities Grant from Tameside Council to fund the event. The scheme aims to create an exciting and diverse programme of cultural activities for Ashton, focusing on creativity, and bringing people into the town centre. This funding is available until the end of March 2024, or earlier if the funding runs out. The programme is open to all but will favour local Tameside residents, creatives and organisations.
