Two brand new exhibitions are open at the Market Gallery in Ashton Indoor Market!

Pete Woodburn: My Art In Oils

The selection of striking oils by local artist Pete Woodburn features local places across the North-West. Pete paints from photographs he has taken on his travels, and he used to take many of his photographs whilst working as a shopping delivery driver. His job took him on journeys across Manchester and Saddleworth; and he always had a camera in his van.

The death ofPete’s beloved dad caused him to take up painting again. In memory of his dad, Pete wanted to paint a photo of him in the garden he loved so much. He shared his painting on Facebook and was overwhelmed by the response and he hasn’t stopped painting since.

Pete is a self-taught artist born in Blackley, currently living in Failsworth, Oldham, where he has lived for 25 years. This is Pete’s third exhibition at The Market Gallery, the first two having been a huge success! Pete continues to document his paintings on his Facebook, just search for ‘Pete Woodburn – My Art in Oils’ to find him.

The Skipton Canal, now on display at The Market Gallery

Tameside Local History Forum: A 25th Anniversary Timeline

The display is a timeline meticulously produced by the History Forum members to celebrate their 25th anniversary, and highlight the forum’s achievements, members and publications.

The Tameside Local History Forum was established in January 2000 to increase public awareness and use of all the elements of local history throughout the Borough. The Forum aims to promote the study of archive and source material for social, business and archaeological purposes, and ensure that such material is well preserved, collated and accessible to all. Both exhibitions will be open until May May 20th.

The Forum also produces its own magazine, HISTORY ALIVE – TAMESIDE, packed with items of historical interest about Tameside. Visit their website to download back copies and learn more about joining the forum:
